Laurentian Driving School is a large beginner-driver school that is best known in Ontario, where it lists 47 locations. In New Brunswick it runs from Moncton, Miramichi and Fredericton, and the Moncton office sits on the same campus as Transport Training Centres of Canada (TTCC), the truck driver school that owns it. The company says it has operated since 1996 and describes itself as Canada’s largest non-franchised full-service driving school.

The course is built around 35 to 40 hours: 20 hours of classroom or online instruction, about 10 hours of online homework, and 10 hours in the car. The thing to know up front is that Laurentian does not publish its New Brunswick prices. They sit behind a booking system, and a $100 deposit holds your spot. Its cars are also all automatic. This page covers the format, the dates, the rules and the questions that will get you a real price.

How the Course Is Built

Core Course

Classroom or online (20 hours)

Take it in person in Moncton, Miramichi or Fredericton, online at your own pace, or in scheduled Zoom classes. The province-approved course ends with a certificate of completion.

Online homework (about 10 hours)

Extra work you do on your own between classes. The FAQ counts it separately from the 20 hours.

In-car lessons (10 hours)

One-on-one with an instructor. The school offers pickup and drop-off in the local area, and says morning, afternoon, evening and weekend times are possible.

One-year window

You have one year from the course start date to finish. Missed in-car hours still have to be completed before you get your certificate.

Hourly lessons are also sold separately if you only want extra practice or a road test warm-up, and the school says financing is available.

Why People Take the Course in New Brunswick

New Brunswick does not require a course. The reason to take one is time. The school and the provincial graduated licence page agree on this:

  • Level 1 gets shorter. With a course from a licensed driving school you can take the Level 2 road test after 8 months instead of 12.
  • The full program does not. You still need 24 months in the graduated program before a full Class 5 licence.
  • You can start early. Classroom work can begin up to two months before your 16th birthday, though the knowledge test itself requires you to be 16.
  • Insurance. Laurentian says graduates may be eligible for an insurance discount. Discounts depend on your insurer, so call them and ask for the exact amount.

Class Dates Listed Right Now

These are the upcoming in-person classes shown on each location’s page when we checked in October 2026. Dates already past are left out, and class lists change often.

Location Upcoming dates listed Start time
Moncton November 7, 2026 9:00 AM
Miramichi November 14 and December 12, 2026 10:30 AM
Fredericton October 24 and December 19, 2026 10:00 AM

If none of those fit, the online self-paced and Zoom options have no fixed date on the pages we read, so ask the office about starting times.

Prices: Why You Have to Ask

⚠️ No New Brunswick prices are published. The pages say prices appear only after you click through to the booking system (“Course Start Dates & Prices” and “Lessons & Pricing”). We could not find a figure for the New Brunswick course or for an hourly lesson, so we have not guessed.

What the school does say about money:

  • $100 deposit to hold a class spot, paid online or in person by Visa, Mastercard or e-Transfer.
  • Full payment is due before your in-car lessons begin.
  • Financing is listed as available. Ask for the terms and any interest.
  • Lessons outside the program are sold by the hour, with a minimum of 3 to 5 hours in some remote locations.

Other Moncton-area schools do publish prices, which gives you something to compare against once Laurentian quotes you:

School Published price What it covers
RightLane Driver Training $781.74 plus tax Classroom or online, 10 hours in-car, road test car
Dieppe Driving School $1,000 plus tax Online theory, Tuesday class, 10 hours in-car
Republic of Drivers From $695 plus HST (listing) Basic program with 10 hours in-car and a road test car
Young Drivers Moncton $1,179 (listing) 25-hour class and 10 hours in-car

The figures come from each school’s page or a search listing, and tax is not always stated, so treat the table as a rough guide and ask each school for a written total with 15% HST.

All Cars Are Automatic

The FAQ says all of Laurentian’s vehicles are automatic. That is fine for most learners, but think about it if you plan to drive a manual car later. The Moncton page does not say whether you take your road test in the school’s car, so ask. It is also worth asking Service New Brunswick whether passing your test in an automatic car puts any limits on your licence.

Cancellations and Missed Lessons

Situation What the school says
Cancel an in-car lesson 24 hours’ notice. Less than that, and a no-show fee applies to each missed lesson. The amount is not published.
Unpaid no-show fees Must be paid before your next lesson and before you receive your certificate.
Missed classroom session You can make it up for a fee (not published) if you were sick or had an emergency. Call 1-800-805-0662.
Missed in-car hours Still have to be completed for the certificate.
Office hours for cancellations Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, per the FAQ.

Where They Teach

Miramichi

80 University Ave, Unit MI A1131, Miramichi, NB. Visits are by appointment, with pickup and drop-off in the Miramichi area.

Fredericton

600 Knowledge Park Drive, Fredericton, NB. Visits are by appointment, with pickup in the Fredericton area.

Other NB towns

The website has pages for Saint John, Oromocto, Gagetown and Grand Falls, but they are not on its list of New Brunswick locations. Ask whether lessons actually run there.

In some directories you will also find “Transport Training Centres of Canada” listed as a separate Moncton driving school at the same address. It is the parent company. Its own Moncton programs are truck and heavy equipment training, so it is not a second car school.

What People Say

Read the ratings carefully, because they cover different things:

  • Moncton page: 4.7 out of 5 from 12 Google reviews, with praise for an instructor named Jamie who is described as patient and good with nervous drivers, including on the highway.
  • 4.9 from 180 reviews: this appears on the Miramichi, Fredericton and home pages, but it is a company-wide number. Many of those reviews talk about the “G2 test,” which is an Ontario licence level, so they come mostly from Ontario branches and tell you little about New Brunswick.
  • Named instructors: Rob, Christian, Leah Ann, Jenn, Walter and Sharon are praised for patience, but the pages do not say which town they teach in.
  • Complaints: none on the school’s own pages, which only show selected reviews. A directory listing for the Moncton TTCC campus carried a review saying a course ran much longer than advertised. It is unclear whether that was a car or truck course, so use it as a reason to ask about timing.

Because the Moncton sample is only 12 reviews, check the current Google profile for the office you plan to use. These are our summaries of public reviews, not endorsements, and individual experiences vary.

Questions to Ask Before You Pay

  • What is the total price with HST? For the course, and for each extra hour.
  • How long until my first in-car lesson? And how far ahead are instructors booked at my location?
  • Which instructor will I get, and where is that person based?
  • How much is the no-show fee, and the make-up class fee? Get the amounts in writing.
  • Can I take my road test in your car? And is it automatic?
  • What does financing cost?
  • Are Zoom or online classes available now? Dates for those are not shown on the pages.

What We Could and Couldn’t Verify

  • Public sources used: Laurentian’s website (home, Moncton, Miramichi, Fredericton, New Brunswick, FAQ and testimonials pages), the TTCC Moncton campus page, MapQuest, the provincial graduated licence page and search listings.
  • Provincial approval: the school says its courses are approved by the Department of Justice and Public Safety. We did not find an official list to check this against.
  • Founding date: “since 1996” is the school’s own claim.
  • Ratings: Google figures come from widgets on the school’s pages, not from Google itself.
  • Not published: course and lesson prices, no-show fees, class length per session and instructor lists for each town.
  • Hours differ: the pages show phone hours of 9 AM to 6 PM, while the FAQ and the TTCC page show 8 AM to 5 PM.

Common Questions

How much does Laurentian Driving School cost in New Brunswick?

The school does not publish prices. You get them in its booking system or by phone at 1-800-805-0662. A $100 deposit holds a class spot, and full payment is due before in-car lessons start.

How long is the course?

35 to 40 hours in total: 20 hours of classroom or online instruction, about 10 hours of online homework and 10 hours in the car. You have one year from the start date to finish.

Does the course shorten the wait for Level 2?

Yes. With a course from a licensed driving school, the Level 2 road test is available after 8 months instead of 12. The full graduated program still takes at least 24 months.

Can I take the course online?

Yes. Online self-paced learning and scheduled Zoom classes are listed, along with in-person classes. In-car lessons still happen in person.

Are the cars automatic or manual?

All of the school’s vehicles are automatic, according to its FAQ.

Do they pick me up?

Yes. Pickup and drop-off are offered at a preferred location within the local area of each office.

What if I cancel a lesson?

You need to give 24 hours’ notice. Otherwise a no-show fee applies, and it must be paid before your next lesson and before you get your certificate.

Is Laurentian the same as Transport Training Centres of Canada?

TTCC is the parent company and shares the Moncton campus. TTCC teaches trucks and heavy equipment, and Laurentian is its car driver education division.

How do I register?

Online through the school’s website, or by calling 1-800-805-0662. You can also call the Moncton line at 506-854-4049.

Who This School Is For

Laurentian is a reasonable choice if you want a large, structured program with online or Zoom classroom options, and you do not mind driving an automatic. The school is also easy to reach in three cities, and the 1-year window gives you room to fit lessons around work or school.

It is a weaker fit if you want to see a price before you call, or if you want a manual car. Ask for the total with HST, the no-show fee and the first lesson date in writing, then compare it with the schools that publish their prices.
